Observability Strategy
Why observability is central
AgentOps depends on observability because agent behavior cannot be understood from infrastructure metrics alone. Teams need to reconstruct the chain of decisions and dependencies behind an answer, a failed tool call, a safety block, a hallucination, a latency spike, or a cost regression.
AgentOps Value Delivery Workshop teaches observability as a practical system:
- Collect traces, telemetry, safety events, feedback, latency, cost, and release metadata.
- Correlate every signal to agent version, deployment, eval run, trace ID, and owner.
- Visualize operational health, behavior quality, safety, and cost.
- Alert on production-impacting signals.
- Diagnose issues from traces and evidence.
- Improve by promoting production traces into future evaluation rows.

Lab 4 focus
Lab 4 is the deepest observability experience. It guides attendees through:
- Defining a trace schema for an agent interaction.
- Identifying what Foundry captures and what the application must add.
- Correlating traces with eval runs and release versions.
- Designing an Azure Monitor or Application Insights view for agent operations.
- Defining alerts for failed tools, safety events, latency regression, cost spikes, and quality drift.
- Reviewing a trace and deciding whether it should become a new eval case.
- Adding an observability section to the readiness evidence package.
